What's with the Name?
Slungle:
A Socially
Liberated Jungle
(yes, there's meaning
here...)
Slungle is a name we chose for our community, because, in large part, we feel that it represents “Generation Y”, which is our target market. When you look at who this demographic is and what they represent, experts convey mixed response, but it is clear that they are looking to make a difference and impact this world.
As we thought about the word, we thought that a “socially liberated jungle” or “Slungle” for short described what we were looking to create. First, Slungle represents a completely social environment that utilizes the latest technologies and the most innovative tools that are the defining norm for “Generation Y”. At the core of what Slungle represents is the ability to virtually interact and connect with family, friends, and peers from all over the globe.
Second, Slungle represents the freedom (or liberation) that "Generation Y" is seeking. They want the freedom to pursue their dreams and to be recognized for the creativity and innovation that they represent. We are providing a liberating environment and platform that gives this generation an opportunity to engage and collaborate as they explore the most challenging and difficult issues that they face on a daily basis. It is our goal that the Slungle community has the freedom to ask difficult questions and the ability to find morally compassed answers without prejudice in a compassionate manner.
Third, Slungle represents the real-world. Many will say that “it is a jungle out there…”. Well, we know that at a minimum it is dangerous, and it is difficult to live and go through life. Slungle represents the ability for “Generation Y” to engage with each other as they explore “real” life issues throughout their chaotic journey of life. We want this to be a “real” and “authentic” environment where our Slungle community has the ability to take a reflective look at who they are as well as inspire their “Generation Y” peers to reach for their best as they pursue what it is that they aspire to become.
In large part, we want our community to help define what Slungle is. We believe that this empowers our community in the fullest capacity and leverages the characteristics that define our target generation. At it’s core, Slungle is a real-time, authentic, and interactive social networking environment. We are combining broadcast media, live discussion, and social interaction to create a fun, entertaining, informative, and engaging environment. Our purpose is to impact a generation today for a more significant tomorrow. We want our Slungle community to help us define what that looks like, and that is the power of what the word “Slungle” represents.
